I have not open this fish for a more detail
view for the camera as it was the clients wish that the fish's body remained
whole and untouched as the fish had been a friend for many years.
The
tumor completely involved the throat.
An unidentified tumour attached to the body
wall, and affecting no internal organs.
This fish is a male, so there
may be a link to the gonads.
Ovarian tumours in the latter stages show a distinct anal
swelling not the fat round appearance of a fish carrying eggs
Known
as cell tumours, nothing is known of their origin.
They grow at a
staggering rate. These pictures show a cell tumour which came from nothing to
such a large size in only 6 weeks.
They are always fatal. Once a tumour
shows itself, the fish is beyond treatment.
best pic ive seen of a full blown ovarian
tumor
A male fish
with the largest tumor of the gonads I've ever seen.
Note the abdominal
cavity is swamped with blood. This fish was in it's last hours, but was still
feeding. There is still food in the intestines, as pellets are still
visible.
You can see the fish on the
"fat fish" page.
